Funk & Soul: From Body to Soul
They say that Soul raised the soul to heaven and Funk brought it back to the body on earth. They are genres so contagious that they seem like an auditory worm yes or yes they remain engraved in your head.
Soul originated in the United States in the 1950s and early 1960s. It combined elements of African-American gospel music, rhythm and blues, and often jazz. It also became popular around the world, directly influencing rock music and the music of Africa. While Funk was born as a truly rebellious genre for its time, it originated in the mid to late 1960s, when African-American musicians created a new form of rhythmic, danceable music through a mix of soul, jazz, and R&B.
These two genres formed two access routes to music with African-American roots. It continues to invite you to get up on the dance floor every time it sounds alongside great voices such as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and James Brown.
